Setting Up a Web Server for Your Business
Speaker: Frank Hum, Technical Account Manager, East Coast, Linuxcare

This seminar will explain the fundamentals of setting up a Web server for a business. The talk will cover the tradeoffs of co-locating Web servers versus hosting your own, the administration of Web servers, an overview of tools available to build and maintain a Web site, and ways to build a Web server on a tight budget. 

A demonstration of building a Web server for a small office/home office (SOHO) will be given at the end of the talk.

Speaker: Frank Hum has 18 years of experience in the computer industry doing system engineering, development, and project management. He is currently Technical Account Manager, East Coast, for Linuxcare, providing professional services for major corporate and federal government clients. Before joining Linuxcare, Frank was Vice President, Engineering, for Glebe Electronics, Inc. 

Frank Hum has worked with numerous Government agencies, Fortune 500 firms, and small firms on information technology (IT) systems. He is a contributing author for Linux Unleashed, Fourth Edition, and SuSE Linux Unleashed, published by SAMS publishers. Mr. Hum received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Duke University and his Masters in Information Management from George Washington University. He resides in Oak Hill, Virginia, with his wife and three children.

NOTE: This E&C SIG meeting follows CPCUG's free "Before You Buy a Computer" Seminar, which starts at 8:30 am for registration and runs as late as 2:00 pm.

Free Parking: There's construction underway at NIH, so try to arrive a little early. (There are traffic police on the NIH campus--observe the
signs--speeding or rolling through stop signs, for example, can result
in tickets.)  You may park in the inside parking garage of Building
10. Enter from Memorial Drive and park on the P3 level. Watch for and
observe the signs, including those about types of cars permitted in
certain spaces (such as "handicapped" driver and "small compact"
only.) Tell any parking attendant you are attending a CPCUG event
(there will be no charge). You may also park in the many outdoor
parking lots.
