Virtualizing Your Computer

Dennis Courtney, President of the CPCUG, will explain what is virtualization, how it works and how you can use it. We will show how to create a new virtual PC from scratch, and how to virtualize an existing PC. Gone are the days when you would keep a simple backup of your old PC. Now you can virtualize your old PC and keep a working copy of the entire environment (including drivers and settings) live on your new PC. We will show you how and point you to the tools you will need to create your virtual world. Get presentation notes here.

Digital Video Recording of TV/Cable Broadcasting

As follow-up to last year’s presentation on Home Theater PC, this month we will show how a PC can be used to replace the set-top box that normally must be rented to access, record and manage cable broadcasting. This can be done with the use of a CableCard tuner card and digital video recording/management software. For the demonstration, we will use the Ceton InfiniTV 4 CableCard tuner card and Windows Media Center.
